Pimpara Lake
Amazing bird-life, ephemeral lakes

back to network index

Pimpara Lake is a family-owned working sheep and cattle property.  The property is located 130 kms south of Milparinka.  If travelling from Broken Hill via the Silver City Highway it is located 200 km from Broken Hill with the turnoff the highway at the Smithville Tee Junction. Alternately, follow the Sturt's Track touring route from Pine View Station.

The homestead area is located adjacent to one of several ephemeral lakes on the property that fills periodically from the Packsaddle Creek. Birdlife and native animal life is quite prolific.

One of the historical features of the property is that it backs onto the sand dunes and salty creeks over which Sturt's expedition struggled between the campsite on Flood's Creek and their most famous site at Depot Glen.

Visitors to the property are able to see at first hand measures that have been taken on the property to ensure adequate water supply for stock and domestic use, and the relationship between water and total grazing pressure on the land.

Self-contained accommodation is available for up to twelve guests in the shearer's quarters, whilst campsites are located adjacent to the Packsaddle Creek.  Limited B and B accommodation available. Tours can be arranged.
