What is the Unincorporated Area of New South Wales?

The Unincorporated Area (UA) is the far northwest section of the state.  Extending about 350 km along the NSW_Qld border from the Paroo River west to Cameron Corner, then 500 km south along the NSW-SA border to the Shire of Wentworth. It covers an area of 93,000 square kilometres.  The eastern boundary zigzags from northest to southwest, excludes White Cliffs and the Menindee Lakes, and the city of Broken Hill.

The area known as the Corner Country occupies the north-western section of the Unincorporated Area.

Being unincorporated means that this area is without Local Government and falls within the responsibilities of the Western Lands Commission.

The Heritage Study examined many, but not all, of the heritage sites and values within the region.  The report is divided into several sections which are downloadable as pdf files.
