The
Darling River Run is an initiative of Outback NSW Tourism to provide all the
information needed to learn about one of Australia’s great driving adventures
and to discover how best to experience this very special part of Western NSW.
The ‘Run’ starts at Walgett
and follows the course of the Darling River through Brewarrina, Bourke, Louth,
Tilpa, Wilcannia, Menindee, Pooncarie and to the confluence with the Mighty
Murray River. The Darling River Run is not simply point A to point B but the
river forms the spine of the journey as there are a vast amount of options for
the traveller in the surrounding area. Unique towns (Lightning Ridge and White
Cliffs), wonderful National Parks (Gundabooka, Mutawintji, Kinchega, and Mungo),
and not forgetting the jewel of Western NSW, Broken Hill.
The
Darling River Run website will provide
resources to learn about this wonderful region of NSW and how best to explore
it.

THE NSW
Outback is a landscape of great beauty which will take your breath away with its
grandeur and its drama. It will wrap you up and persuade you to return over and
over again because there is nowhere else on earth quite like it. Art, culture,
history and waterways are a few of the surprises that can be found in places
like Broken Hill, Lightning Ridge (Black Opals), Bourke, Cobar, Wentworth and
Corner Country
www.visitbrokenhill.com.au
The city of Broken Hill has developed as a vibrant
Mecca for Artists and Filmmakers, a long way from
its roots as the site of its richest deposit of
Silver Lead and Zinc the world has ever seen. Today
Broken Hill is still a working town, mining is still
a major economic driver and in conjunction with the
environment, agriculture, art and tourism, the city
is buzzing!
Broken Hill is the stepping off point for the
greater outback NSW experience, be warned though
that 3 days will not be long enough to do it all,
you’ll need to plan at least 7 days to get around to
meet the people and see the diverse countryside that
is truly Australian.
