 ACCOMMODATION ATTRACTIONS LOCATION

Many visitors to Theldarpa are attracted to the sheer space, the open skies, sunsets, stars at night, and the peace. There are scenes to paint, scenes to photograph and views just to remember.

For others the wild-life are an attraction, with kangaroos often grazing close to the shearers' quarters, many species of birds, some regularly seen heading in to the house dam close to accommodation to drink in the evenings. A myriad variety of desert plants and flowers grow when rain has fallen.

4WD tracks are accessible to those with high clearance vehicles.  Station tracks lead across seemingly endless gibber plateaux to look-outs across wide vistas. Jump-up mesas dominate, but there are plenty of smaller attractions also...lizards beneath overhanging rocks, or the nest of a wedge-tail eagle high in a mulga tree.

Most creek and hillsides have been adapted for use as habitat by kangaroos and other native animals and are worthy of investigation.

The remains of the historic Yandama shearing shed ( where 60,000 sheep were shorn in the 1890s) and wool-scour on the Yandama Creek are also quite an attraction. The waterhole on the creek often has water in it making it a lovely spot for a walk and picnic.

As on most stations, work with the sheep and cattle is seasonal.  Recent droughts have led to a significant reduction in stock numbers as the property recovers.  Visitors are welcome to be involved in low-level activities should the situation arise.

Other activities include yabbying.  Ask about our sunset champagne drive!
