| 2005 marked the 125th
anniversary of the proclamation of Milparinka as a township. To
celebrate this milestone the community staged a re-union for the
descendants of pioneering families. Several hundred people came,
from many quarters of Australia. A feature
of the day was the re-enactment of a gold escort from the Mt Browne
goldfields to the Milparinka courthouse. Two currently serving
police officers dressed in period uniform and rode alongside the coach
as it entered the township. For those assembled, this was a
wonderfully nostalgic and exciting moment.
Then, things got interesting. Two bandits rode
into town, held up the coach ( it had been done before!) and rode off
with the satchel of gold. The police of course gave chase,
captured the culprits, and later attended an arraignment and trial in
the courthouse.
Luckily there was no public hanging that day.
